We figured out the ultimate road trip for a Bay Area sports fan in 2020
And all it took was overlaying 9 sports schedules on top of each other
You know what's great? The Giants releasing their 2020 schedule.
But you know what's better? The Warriors unveiling their 2019-2020 schedule.
You know what's even better than that, though? Taking both of those schedules, plus a dozen other sports schedules, putting them all into one GARGANTUAN MASTER BAY AREA-THEMED SPORTS CALENDAR, and then combing through the entire thing to find out which weekends are worth planning an ultimate road trip around in 2020.
Which is exactly what we did, and, turns out, the scheduling gods left Bay Area sports fans with just one great weekend in 2020: April 9-11.
That's the sole weekend you'll see the Warriors, Giants, Niners, Sharks, Raiders, or A's overlap in an even just moderately desirable road trip destination (see: not Cleveland).
And it's a pretty awesome overlap:
THURSDAY, APRIL 9: Warriors at Lakers, 7:30 p.m.
FRIDAY, APRIL 10: Giants at Padres, TBD
SATURDAY, APRIL 11: Warriors at Clippers, 5:30 p.m.
Yep, two matchups against potential powerhouse NBA teams (and the chance to see three verifiable superstars LeBron, AD, and Kawhi, and one verifiable regular star Paul George), one against an MLB team that is currently (and very likely later-ly) worse than the Giants, and virtual guarantees it will be 75 and sunny the whole time you're there.
And the price for the whole thing seems pretty reasonable — ~$60 for a three-day car rental, ~$140 for round trip flights on Southwest, Warriors at Lakers tickets are currently $178 on Stubhub, Warriors at Clippers tickets are $63 on Stubhub, and Giants at Padres tickets should be around $20 if current pricing is any indication. If you can find a buddy to crash with, you're ultimate road tripping for a grand total of... around $450, or about the cost of a 3-day Outside Lands pass.
