Because America isn't large enough for our liking, President Donald Trump is reportedly considering "buying" Greenland.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump has "repeatedly expressed interest" to aides about buying the territory. The Journal reported Trump has discussed Greenland with "varying degrees of seriousness," but has asked the White House to research the matter.

Aides are reportedly split on Trump's musings, with some wondering how the president would even go about acquiring Greenland in the first place.

Greenland is currently an autonomous Danish territory, and according to the Journal, Trump told aides he believes that a purchase could be feasible since "Denmark was having financial trouble over its assistance to Greenland."

Predictably, the president's proposal was not taken very seriously among social media users.

"Greenland to the U.S., Alaska to Russia and Crimea to Denmark in a blockbuster three-team trade," the LA Times' Matt Pearce tweeted.

Some Twitter users added Trump Tower to images of Greenland towns, while others pointed out that the United States would have Russia surrounded from the east and north with the acquisition of Greenland.
